Tottenham Reopen Talks for £77m Forward Despite Rocky First Stint

Tottenham Hotspur could be lining up one of the more surprising moves of the window — reports suggest the club have reopened talks over re-signing a player whose loan spell at the club last season underwhelmed.

Spurs have already been among the Premier League’s biggest spenders this summer, shelling out north of £230 million to reinforce Roberto De Zerbi’s squad. Marquee additions like Sandro Tonali and Mateus Fernandes show the scale of the rebuild, but it seems there’s more business to come as the club look to go from relegation strugglers to European hopefuls.

A surprise reunion on the cards

French outlets report that Tottenham have opened talks over bringing Randal Kolo Muani back on a permanent deal, after his loan spell in north London last season failed to live up to expectations. The forward’s big-money move to PSG (£77m from Eintracht Frankfurt) never really worked out, and his temporary stint at Spurs did little to change that — just one goal and one assist in 30 Premier League appearances.

Most expected Kolo Muani to head to Juventus once his loan ended, with the Italian side long tipped for a reunion. But with that deal yet to be finalized, Tottenham have apparently re-entered the picture — a development that’s caught plenty of people off guard given how his first spell went.

Why the interest, despite the numbers

Kolo Muani arrived with a strong reputation built on his form in Serie A and for France, but goals just didn’t come at Tottenham. Gary Neville was among the critics, pointing to his lack of end product as a real issue during a rocky season, and some fans have called it one of the club’s worst loan signings in recent memory.

Still, De Zerbi has stuck up for him, arguing that one disappointing season doesn’t erase his underlying quality. That backing may be why Spurs are willing to give it another look. There’s also a case that a proper pre-season under De Zerbi, in a more settled and better-structured side, could bring out the form that once made him one of Europe’s most wanted forwards.

Even so, it’s a gamble. Given how his first spell went, Spurs fans are likely to view any reunion talk with some skepticism — and the club will have to weigh up whether he’s earned another shot at proving himself in the Premier League.
