Tottenham Hotspur made a double addition to their squad last week, wrapping up deals for Mateus Fernandes from West Ham and Sandro Tonali from Newcastle. With those midfield signings sorted, focus is now shifting to strengthening the attack.
Per Sport Witness, Spurs have identified Como’s Martin Baturina as a target. The 23-year-old Croatian international impressed with a strong campaign in Serie A followed by a solid World Cup, and he could offer exactly the creative edge Tottenham are missing.
The attacking midfielder carries a price tag of around £70 million this summer. Given how freely Spurs have been spending lately, another big-money move wouldn’t come as much of a surprise.
Why Baturina fits the bill
Having already brought in two box-to-box midfielders, it makes sense that Tottenham would now look for a proper number 10 — the creative role was a real weak spot last season. James Maddison was out for a large chunk of the campaign through injury, Dejan Kulusevski also missed time, and that left Xavi Simons as the only consistent presence in that advanced role, even though he too struggled with fitness during his first season at the club.
Baturina, on the other hand, has established himself as a genuine creative influence at Como. His vision, close control, and technical quality make him a constant danger in the final third, and his ability to strike from distance gives him another way to hurt teams. He’s versatile too, capable of playing as a centre-forward, out on the left, or dropping into central midfield when needed.
That kind of adaptability makes Baturina look like a sound investment — and it’ll be interesting to see whether Tottenham follow through with a move in the weeks ahead.
