Julian Alvarez has reportedly rejected the idea of joining Arsenal despite Atletico Madrid being willing to negotiate with the Gunners.
According to reports from Spain, Atletico Madrid have agreed to open discussions with Arsenal over a potential transfer for the Argentine forward. However, Alvarez is said to have made it clear that Arsenal is not his preferred destination.
The 26-year-old remains focused on fulfilling his long-standing ambition of moving to Barcelona. Alvarez previously revealed that he had spoken with Atletico officials and believed a transfer would be the best outcome for everyone involved.
Since arriving from Manchester City in 2024 for around £81.5 million, Alvarez has scored 49 goals and provided 17 assists in 106 appearances for Atletico.
While Atletico are reportedly unwilling to sell him directly to Barcelona, they are prepared to consider Arsenal’s interest. Mikel Arteta’s side remain keen on bringing the forward to the Emirates.
However, Mundo Deportivo claims Alvarez is “not keen” on the Arsenal move and continues to prioritise Barcelona.
His situation at Atletico has become increasingly uncertain, with the forward even left out of the squad for their opening La Liga fixture. Diego Simeone insisted that Alvarez still has an important role to play but suggested he needs more training after his involvement with Argentina.
With the transfer window approaching its final stages, Alvarez’s future remains one of the major stories to watch.
