Liverpool reportedly made a last-minute attempt to sign Chelsea right-back Malo Gusto on loan on transfer deadline day. However, the move failed after the two clubs disagreed over the structure of the deal.
According to journalist Fabrice Hawkins, Liverpool wanted a straight loan without a mandatory purchase clause, while Chelsea were pushing for a permanent transfer. Liverpool reportedly did not have the finances available to complete the permanent deal, leading to the negotiations breaking down.
Gusto had attracted interest because Liverpool are looking for more depth at right-back, with Conor Bradley still recovering from injury and Jeremie Frimpong yet to fully convince in the position.
As things stand, Gusto is expected to remain at Chelsea, while Liverpool head into the end of the window without completing the late move.
