Tottenham Make Final Decision on Roberto De Zerbi After Nottingham Forest Draw

Tottenham Hotspur manager Roberto De Zerbi remains under increasing pressure after his side played out a disappointing goalless draw against Nottingham Forest, but there has been no confirmation that the Italian has been sacked.

Spurs have endured a disastrous beginning to the 2026/27 Premier League campaign. After suffering a 3-0 defeat to Brentford and a 2-0 loss against Newcastle United, Tottenham finally picked up their first point against Forest. However, the performance did little to ease concerns, as Spurs failed to score for the third consecutive league match and did not register a single shot on target.

The poor start has come as a major surprise considering the huge investment made during the summer. Tottenham reportedly spent more than £300 million rebuilding their squad, with several high-profile players arriving in an attempt to transform the team and push the club towards the top of the table.

However, the new signings and De Zerbi’s tactical approach have yet to produce the desired results. The team currently looks short of confidence, creativity and attacking threat, raising serious questions about how quickly the manager can turn things around.

The defeat to Newcastle had already increased the pressure on De Zerbi, with Spurs showing defensive weaknesses and struggling to maintain their performance throughout the match. The draw against Nottingham Forest prevented another defeat, but one point from three matches and zero goals scored is far below the expectations surrounding the club.

There have also been issues away from the pitch. Richarlison was left out of Tottenham’s league squad after reportedly refusing a contract extension and making it clear that he wanted to leave. De Zerbi admitted that he tried to convince the Brazilian forward to stay but eventually decided to move forward with other attacking options.

Meanwhile, Mykhailo Mudryk made his first competitive appearance in 645 days when he came off the bench against Nottingham Forest, adding another talking point to what has already been a dramatic start to Tottenham’s season.

Despite the poor results, there is an argument that De Zerbi deserves more time. The manager is attempting to introduce a new style of football while working with a heavily rebuilt squad, and three league matches may not be enough to properly judge the long-term project.

However, football is a results-driven business, and Tottenham supporters are already demanding signs of improvement. The biggest concern is not only the lack of goals but also the apparent absence of a clear identity on the pitch. Fans can sometimes accept defeats when they can see progress, but Spurs have so far struggled to provide convincing evidence that the team is moving in the right direction.

Tottenham’s next Premier League match against Everton could now be extremely important for De Zerbi. A strong performance and a convincing victory could help restore confidence and reduce the growing pressure surrounding him.

However, another poor result—especially if Tottenham once again fail to score—could lead to even more speculation about his future.

For now, reports claiming that Tottenham have already dismissed Roberto De Zerbi are not confirmed. He remains the club’s manager, although his position has become increasingly uncomfortable after such a poor start.

Tottenham have collected just one point from their opening three league matches, scored no goals and failed to produce a shot on target against Nottingham Forest. With so much money invested in the squad, the pressure is already mounting.

De Zerbi has not been sacked, but the coming matches could play a major role in determining whether he is given time to rebuild the team or whether Tottenham eventually decide to make another managerial change.
