Tottenham Hotspur are edging closer to bolstering their defence ahead of the summer window, having reportedly reached a full agreement with Argentine centre-back Marcos Senesi over a potential free transfer.
The North London club have quietly moved to secure the deal, agreeing on a four-year contract running until June 2030, with an option to extend it by another year. The package is said to be worth around £5.5 million per season, including performance-based bonuses.
Senesi, known for his calmness in possession and strong defensive awareness, has been on the radar of several major European sides, including Chelsea FC, Manchester United, Borussia Dortmund, and Juventus FC. Despite that interest, the 27-year-old is thought to prefer a move to Spurs, attracted by the club’s ongoing project.
Head coach Roberto De Zerbi has played a key role in the process, holding direct talks with the defender and giving his full backing to the move. He reportedly sees Senesi as a vital addition to strengthen Tottenham’s backline.
However, the transfer is not fully finalized. Senesi and his representatives are waiting for Tottenham’s Premier League status to be mathematically secured before signing a formal pre-contract. Such conditional agreements are common, especially when a club’s top-flight future is uncertain.
That makes Spurs’ relegation battle even more crucial. Staying in the Premier League is viewed as essential—not just financially, but also to secure key targets like Senesi and possibly Andrew Robertson, who is also reportedly being monitored under similar conditions.
For Tottenham, survival is now the top priority. Securing their place in the Premier League could open the door to a major squad rebuild, with Senesi likely to be one of the first key additions.
