Liverpool have confirmed the permanent departure of the young winger as he sets out on the next stage of his career.

Liverpool FC have officially announced the departure of talented young winger Trent Kone-Doherty, who has sealed a permanent switch to Norwegian outfit Molde FK. The move was completed weeks after the January transfer window closed in England, taking advantage of Norway’s later deadline.

A Deal Completed After the Window Closed
Although the English transfer window had already shut, the transfer remained possible because Norwegian clubs could still register players until April 1, ahead of their domestic season. This allowed Molde to finalise a deal for the 19-year-old despite the earlier deadline in England.

The youngster has put pen to paper on a four-year contract as he aims to take the next step in his career and secure regular senior football.

Kone-Doherty’s Time at Liverpool
Kone-Doherty joined Liverpool’s academy from Irish side Derry City in 2022. He progressed steadily through the youth setup, featuring regularly for the U18, U19, and U21 sides.

While most of his involvement came at academy level, he did make the breakthrough into the senior team with two appearances:

* An FA Cup outing against Plymouth Argyle in 2025
* A League Cup appearance against Crystal Palace later that year

Despite his potential, intense competition in attacking areas limited his chances of consistent first-team minutes.

Reaction to the Move
After completing the transfer, Kone-Doherty expressed enthusiasm about his new challenge. He believes Molde offers the ideal environment to continue his development and showcase his attacking ability.

He also highlighted his playing style, describing himself as someone who enjoys entertaining fans and playing with confidence.

A New Chapter in Norway
The timing of the move could work in his favour, with Norway’s top-flight campaign starting in March. This gives him the opportunity to settle quickly and potentially feature early in the season.

For Liverpool, the transfer marks another academy graduate moving on in search of regular football, with the club likely to keep an eye on his progress.

Final Thoughts
Young players often need consistent game time to reach their full potential, and Molde could provide exactly that platform for Kone-Doherty. A strong spell in Norway might well be the foundation for a bigger future in European football.
