Bergvall Edges Closer to Tottenham Loan Departure With Premier League Club Interested

Lucas Bergvall may be heading out on loan from Tottenham this summer after struggling for game time under Roberto De Zerbi. The Swedish midfielder has made just one start since the Italian took charge, with De Zerbi consistently favouring Rodrigo Bentancur, Joao Palhinha and Conor Gallagher in the middle of the park.

Despite being one of the most highly regarded prospects at the club and racking up 78 first-team appearances, a temporary departure could suit both player and club. Analyst John Wenham suggested a loan to a Premier League side such as Bournemouth, Brighton or Brentford would do wonders for his development, particularly with Spurs unlikely to offer European football next season.

However, there is reason to believe Bergvall’s situation could change. De Zerbi’s earlier reluctance to use him was likely shaped by the pressure of a relegation battle, and with that behind him, the 20-year-old may yet get the chance to impress during pre-season. Having signed a contract extension until 2031, his future at Spurs is not in doubt β€” it may simply be a matter of patience before he earns a regular starting berth.
