“I Was Told to Turn Down Tottenham” – Premier League Star Lifts Lid on Private Conversation That Derailed Spurs Transfer

Spurs’ chances of signing Morgan Gibbs-White are under threat once more, following fresh revelations about the behind-the-scenes discussions shaping the midfielder’s future.

Tottenham have rekindled their pursuit of the Nottingham Forest playmaker after missing out on him last summer. Despite activating his release clause, Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis intervened personally, convincing Gibbs-White to stay at the City Ground and extend his commitment to the club.

Now, former Everton CEO Keith Wyness has suggested that a similar round of private talks could derail Spurs’ latest approach.

Speaking on Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, Wyness claimed the England international is seeking firm assurances from Forest’s leadership that the club is serious about rebuilding and returning to European competition. He argued those internal discussions could be enough to convince Gibbs-White that remaining at Forest is the smarter move over joining Tottenham.

Wyness also cast doubt on whether Spurs represent the right destination for the midfielder at this point, questioning the North London club’s financial muscle and describing Roberto De Zerbi’s project as still a work in progress.

He suggested Marinakis would once again make his influence felt, noting the Forest owner had already seen Tottenham off once before. Wyness added that Gibbs-White would want to see genuine squad investment before committing to any decision, and that staying at a revitalised Forest could be the better option compared to moving to Spurs.

The remarks have divided opinion among Tottenham fans, with many questioning the logic of discouraging a transfer amid renewed interest. With no final decision yet made, the conversations unfolding within Forest’s hierarchy appear set to play a defining role in where Gibbs-White ends up next season.
