Liverpool Line Up New Winger as Yan Diomande Transfer Saga Takes Fresh Turn
Liverpool have reportedly identified a new attacking target as uncertainty continues to surround their pursuit of RB Leipzig winger Yan Diomande.
The Reds have already strengthened their squad this summer, completing the signing of Spanish winger Victor Munoz from Osasuna after triggering his €40 million release clause. They are also keeping tabs on Rayo Vallecano full-back Andrei Ratiu and Paris Saint-Germain star Bradley Barcola.
Diomande remains Liverpool’s preferred option, but negotiations have stalled after Leipzig rejected an opening bid believed to be worth around £86 million. While reports suggested Liverpool returned with a £100 million (€116m) offer, Sky Germany journalist Philipp Hinze has dismissed those claims, insisting no official second bid has been submitted.
With the Diomande deal still unresolved, Liverpool have reportedly stepped up their interest in Benfica winger Andreas Schjelderup. The Norwegian international is also attracting attention from Tottenham Hotspur, Atletico Madrid, AC Milan and Como.
Schjelderup joined Benfica from Nordsjælland in 2023 and has since contributed 15 goals and 15 assists in 86 appearances, helping the Portuguese giants win both the Primeira Liga and the Taça da Liga. Benfica are believed to value the 22-year-old at around £34.5 million.
Interestingly, Schjelderup previously turned down the chance to join Liverpool as a teenager, choosing Nordsjælland instead because it offered a clearer route to first-team football. The winger has since admitted the decision was difficult but believes it was the best move for his long-term development.
