James Pearce has offered a boost to Liverpool fans ahead of Saturday’s Premier League clash with Tottenham Hotspur. Although the Reds beat Brighton last weekend, concerns arose when Dominik Szoboszlai was forced off late after landing awkwardly on his ankle while avoiding a challenge from Kaoru Mitoma.
Those fears have since eased. Initial checks in Hungary found no serious injury, and confidence has continued to grow ahead of the trip to north London.
According to The Athletic, Szoboszlai has responded well to treatment and is hopeful of being fit to face Spurs, a development Pearce described as “positive news.” Liverpool’s medical staff will make a final call on Friday, but even if Saturday comes too soon, the midfielder is expected to be available for Wolves after Christmas.
Elsewhere, Joe Gomez will miss the Spurs match with a minor hamstring problem, while Jeremie Frimpong is closing in on a return after nearly two months out.
Szoboszlai’s potential availability would be a major boost, especially with Mohamed Salah away at AFCON and defensive options limited. He could even be used at right-back if required, although Conor Bradley is back from suspension.
There is also a disciplinary note, with Szoboszlai one yellow card away from a ban. Avoiding a booking in the next three league games would raise the threshold and keep him available for key fixtures.
For now, Liverpool’s focus is on Saturday, with hopes Szoboszlai is cleared to feature and possibly make another decisive impact against Spurs, as he did in last season’s thrilling 6–3 win in north London.
