Man City fans furious as two players branded ‘liabilities’ after Arsenal defeat

Man City Fans Turn on Two Players After Arsenal Community Shield Defeat

Manchester City endured a frustrating afternoon against Arsenal in the Community Shield, suffering a heavy 3-0 defeat. While the overall team performance raised concerns, two players attracted particularly strong criticism from supporters.

New City boss Enzo Maresca saw his side struggle to match Arsenal’s intensity from the opening whistle, with the Gunners taking the lead within the first minute. Kai Havertz doubled Arsenal’s advantage with a header before captain Martin Ødegaard added a third shortly after the break.

Among the biggest targets of fan frustration were Abdukhodir Khusanov and Gianluigi Donnarumma.

Khusanov Struggles at Right-Back

Khusanov was once again used at right-back, a position he had occasionally occupied under Pep Guardiola last season. However, the experiment failed to impress against Arsenal.

The defender was heavily involved in the build-up to Arsenal’s first two goals, with his positioning and concentration coming under scrutiny. His tendency to switch off while playing out of position frustrated City supporters, many of whom took to social media to express their disappointment.

Some fans questioned why the club continues to use Khusanov at right-back, while others argued that he should be moved back into a more natural defensive role.

Donnarumma Also Comes Under Fire

New goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma endured an equally difficult outing.

The Italian appeared unable to keep out Havertz’s close-range effort as the ball squeezed underneath him before going in off the post. He was then beaten again by Ødegaard after the Arsenal captain was played through, leaving City supporters increasingly frustrated.

Fans were particularly critical of Donnarumma’s shot-stopping and questioned whether City made the right decision in replacing Trafford with the former PSG goalkeeper.

Some supporters went as far as branding the goalkeeper a “liability” following his error-strewn display.

City Still Have Plenty to Fix

The defeat highlighted just how much experience Manchester City may have lost during the summer.

Players such as Bernardo Silva, John Stones and Nathan Aké brought significant Premier League experience to the squad, while City have so far made relatively few major additions.

Elliot Anderson’s reported £116 million arrival has been one of their biggest moves, while speculation continues over Rodri’s future amid reported interest from Barcelona.

With Arsenal already looking strong, City may need to move quickly in the transfer market if they want to avoid falling further behind their Premier League rivals.
