Reports from Italy claim a current Liverpool player came remarkably close to leaving Anfield this summer, with the goalkeeper reportedly even choosing his shirt number at his proposed new club.
Alisson Becker was heavily linked with a move to Juventus earlier this summer and was said to be seriously considering a switch to Turin.
However, Liverpool ultimately refused to sanction the transfer, with Juventus eventually turning their attention elsewhere. The Italian giants later pursued Emiliano Martinez before reaching an agreement with Tottenham for Guglielmo Vicario.
According to Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio, Juventus had made Alisson their initial priority and had already reached an agreement with the Brazilian goalkeeper.
Di Marzio revealed that Alisson had even selected his preferred shirt number before Liverpool stepped in and decided to keep their first-choice goalkeeper.
The report suggests Juventus continued pushing for the deal, but their focus gradually shifted towards Martinez.
For Liverpool, keeping Alisson could prove crucial. The 33-year-old remains one of the club’s most important players and is still regarded as a key figure between the posts.
However, his future could become a major talking point again, as his current contract is set to expire next June. Juventus could potentially revisit their interest if he becomes available as a free agent.
For now, Liverpool supporters can breathe a huge sigh of relief that Alisson’s proposed move to Juventus failed to materialise this summer.
