Arne Slot paid tribute to Mohamed Salah and Andy Robertson during their final training session with Liverpool on Saturday, as the departing pair were presented with personalised mementos ahead of their last appearance in a red shirt.
Both players end nine-year spells on Merseyside this afternoon when the Reds face Brentford — a match from which Liverpool need just a single point to secure Champions League football next season. To mark the occasion, the duo were presented with framed pieces featuring their shirt numbers and highlights from their time at the club.
Addressing the squad and staff, Slot expressed his appreciation for everything the two players had given Liverpool. He acknowledged the collective effort of the backroom team in preparing players to perform, but was clear that it is the players themselves who create the moments and memories that define a club — and that Salah and Robertson had done exactly that. He wished both men well, not just in football but in life.
The send-off this afternoon will rank among the most emotional Anfield has seen. Between them, Salah and Robertson have contributed to two Premier League titles, a Champions League triumph, and numerous other honours since arriving in 2017.
Salah leaves as the third-highest scorer in the club’s history with 257 goals, having also claimed multiple PFA Player of the Year awards. Robertson, meanwhile, developed into one of the finest left-backs in world football during his prime years at Anfield, providing 69 assists while winning supporters over with his character and relentless competitive drive.
Both have been outstanding ambassadors for the club, with tributes from teammates and club legends alike reflecting the scale of what they have meant to Liverpool.
Beyond the emotion, the Reds still have important business to attend to this afternoon. The hope will be that they can get the result needed — and give two genuine club legends the fitting farewell they deserve.
