Arsenal Star Reportedly ‘Pushing Hard’ for Barcelona Transfer Ahead of New Premier League Season

Arsenal could be hit by a late transfer setback, with reports claiming Viktor Gyokeres is pushing for a move to Barcelona before the summer window shuts.

The Swedish striker arrived at Arsenal from Sporting CP last summer for around £55 million and enjoyed a strong debut campaign, scoring 21 goals.

However, Gyokeres reportedly dropped behind Kai Havertz in Mikel Arteta’s attacking hierarchy toward the end of last season, particularly in key fixtures. Havertz also started Arsenal’s Community Shield win over Manchester City, further highlighting his status as Arteta’s preferred No.9.

Journalist Victor Navarro claims Gyokeres is regularly making himself available to Barcelona, who are looking for a new striker following Robert Lewandowski’s departure and Ferran Torres’ move to Paris Saint-Germain.

Barcelona are said to have Lautaro Martinez at the top of their shortlist, while Julian Alvarez could prove difficult to sign because of Atletico Madrid’s position.

That could open the door for Gyokeres to become a more attainable alternative if Barcelona decide to move for another striker.

Arsenal, meanwhile, are set to launch their Premier League title defence against newly promoted Coventry City at the Emirates on Friday.
