Liverpool’s £50m Bid for Yankuba Minteh Rejected by Brighton
Liverpool have reportedly seen an opening offer of £50 million for Brighton winger Yankuba Minteh rejected, despite the Gambian attacker currently being sidelined with an injury. According to The Athletic, Minteh is one of several attacking options Liverpool are considering as they look to strengthen their squad following Mohamed Salah’s departure.
The 22-year-old is expected to miss around eight weeks after undergoing surgery, making Liverpool’s willingness to make a sizeable offer for him particularly notable. Brighton, however, were not convinced by the proposal and turned it down.
Liverpool have been monitoring Minteh for some time and appear determined to explore the possibility of signing a natural right winger. The club reportedly sees the position as an area that needs strengthening, with the player potentially competing with Rio Ngumoha for opportunities on that side of the attack.
Brighton are believed to value Minteh closer to £70 million, meaning Liverpool would potentially have to increase their offer substantially if they want to reach an agreement. Given the player’s current injury, such a valuation could prove difficult for Liverpool to justify.
Nevertheless, Minteh remains an attractive option because of his age, potential and ability to develop further. His profile could also appeal to manager Andoni Iraola, who has a reputation for helping young attacking players improve.
Liverpool’s interest in Minteh also comes amid uncertainty over their pursuit of other wingers. Ibrahim Mbaye of Paris Saint-Germain is another player being considered, although PSG’s asking price is reportedly causing concern at Anfield.
The Reds therefore appear to be testing several options rather than committing immediately to one target. Minteh’s situation could become particularly interesting if Liverpool decide they are willing to move closer to Brighton’s valuation.
For now, though, Brighton have made their position clear by rejecting the initial £50m proposal. With the transfer window rapidly approaching its deadline, Liverpool will need to decide whether to improve their offer, move on to another target, or continue negotiations for the Gambian winger.
The report ultimately suggests that Liverpool are serious about adding another right-sided attacker, but they must act quickly if they want to complete the necessary squad improvements before the window closes.
