Spurs Eye £50m Star As Personal Terms Already Agreed – Report

Tottenham are turning their attention to attack before the transfer window shuts, having already spent big to strengthen their defense and midfield following back-to-back disappointing Premier League seasons.

Liverpool forward Cody Gakpo has become a top target, with Voetbal International reporting that personal terms are already sorted between the player and Spurs.

Dutch outlet AD says Tottenham are confident of getting the deal done soon as they work toward a £50 million agreement with Liverpool. Gakpo had been valued at £70 million earlier in the summer, but Liverpool’s need to raise funds and create squad space for a possible Bradley Barcola arrival from PSG could open the door to a reduced fee.

De Zerbi’s system could bring the best out of Gakpo

After an inconsistent campaign at Liverpool, a change of scenery at Tottenham could be just what Gakpo needs to rediscover his top form, particularly coming off a strong World Cup showing for the Netherlands.

Roberto De Zerbi’s setup, which allows wide players plenty of freedom to cut inside toward goal, looks like a good fit for the 27-year-old’s game. Gakpo’s powerful shot and ability to beat defenders one-on-one would suit that role, while his tendency to stay wide and stretch defenses would give Spurs another tactical dimension.

He played in Liverpool’s friendly against Como last week, though it’s unclear whether Andoni Iraola will include him for the Reds’ Premier League opener this weekend as Tottenham push to get the deal wrapped up quickly.
