Arsenal Eye £80m Premier League Star as Surprise Alternative to Julian Alvarez
Arsenal are reportedly exploring alternative attacking options in case they fail to land Atletico Madrid striker Julian Alvarez, with Everton forward Iliman Ndiaye emerging as one potential target.
The Gunners are coming off a remarkable season in which they ended a 22-year wait for the Premier League title, and Mikel Arteta has strengthened his squad significantly during the summer.
Arsenal have added major names such as Ezri Konsa and Bruno Guimaraes, while Christos Tzolis has also made an encouraging start following his £34m move from Club Brugge.
However, Arteta is still keen to bring in another elite forward before the September 1 transfer deadline, with Alvarez at the top of his wishlist.
The Argentine is reportedly looking to leave Atletico Madrid and was booed by sections of the club’s support during their 2-2 draw with Villarreal. Atletico are believed to want around £128m for the 26-year-old, which would make him the most expensive signing in Premier League history.
Arsenal could be prepared to break their transfer record for Alvarez, but the striker reportedly dreams of joining Barcelona. Atletico, however, have made it clear that they have no intention of allowing him to move to the Catalan club.
With a deal for Alvarez becoming increasingly complicated, Arsenal could turn their attention elsewhere.
Arsenal Consider Iliman Ndiaye
According to reports from talkSPORT’s Ben Jacobs, Arsenal have considered a move for Everton’s Iliman Ndiaye.
The Senegal international fits the profile Arteta appears to be looking for, having the ability to operate in several positions across the attacking line.
Manchester City are also believed to be monitoring the 26-year-old after his impressive performances for Everton last season.
Ndiaye has attracted interest throughout the summer, including from Saudi Arabia, but Everton have remained firm on their £80m valuation.
The forward still has three years remaining on his Everton contract and has already contributed an assist this season, setting up Thierno Barry in the Toffees’ 2-0 victory over Crystal Palace.
David Moyes also handed Ndiaye a starting role in the Carabao Cup, where Everton defeated Preston North End 4-0.
Moyes has previously insisted that Everton have no plans to sell Ndiaye unless they receive an extraordinary offer, stressing that the player is not currently considered available for transfer.
