Tottenham Hotspur are battling yet another brutal injury crisis, leaving Roberto De Zerbi with a severely depleted squad ahead of a crucial clash against Brighton & Hove Albion.
Since taking charge, De Zerbi has been plagued by constant fitness setbacks. Any hope of bringing Mohammed Kudus back in time for the run-in was dashed before the Sunderland game, as the forward picked up a serious thigh injury that could require surgery, putting both his season and World Cup chances in doubt.
Things went from bad to worse in that same match when captain Cristian Romero was forced off after a heavy collision with Antonín Kinský. Scans later confirmed a major injury, sidelining him for 5–7 weeks and effectively ending his league season.
With injuries piling up, De Zerbi is facing a major selection headache. Although Yves Bissouma and Pape Matar Sarr returned to the bench recently, a long list of key players remains unavailable.
Names like James Maddison, Dejan Kulusevski, Rodrigo Bentancur, Wilson Odobert, Ben Davies, and Guglielmo Vicario join Kudus and Romero on a worrying injury list, leaving Spurs stretched thin.
Off the pitch, the situation is just as troubling. After failing to beat Sunderland, Tottenham have dropped into the relegation zone. Wins for West Ham United, Leeds United, and a point for Nottingham Forest have only deepened their troubles.
With just two points separating them from safety after 32 games, and with injuries continuing to mount, Spurs’ fight for survival is now hanging by a thread.
