Luis Enrique Surprisingly Rockets to Top of Betting as Liverpool’s Most Wanted Man With Arne Slot’s Future Under Threat

A high-profile new name has thrust itself into discussions over Liverpool’s managerial future, with reports suggesting PSG head coach Luis Enrique has emerged as the bookmakers’ outright favourite to take over from Arne Slot at Anfield.

Slot has faced growing scrutiny off the back of a patchy season, and unease is said to be spreading within Fenway Sports Group. TEAMtalk reports that the atmosphere at the club has become noticeably strained, with Mohamed Salah’s recent social media posts adding fuel to the fire — many fans interpreting them as a thinly veiled comment on the mood behind the scenes.

Several names had already been circulating as potential successors, with Andoni Iraola, Sebastian Hoeness, Julian Nagelsmann, and Matthias Jaissle all mentioned at various stages. Yet the spotlight has now shifted decisively toward a far more prominent figure.

Luis Enrique has reportedly risen to the head of the betting market for the Liverpool job, despite being fully focused on steering PSG through another UEFA Champions League final in the coming weeks.

Convincing him to walk away from Paris, though, would be a formidable challenge. The 56-year-old is said to be settled and fulfilled at the Parc des Princes, with reports indicating he is open to committing his future to the club until 2030, despite his current deal entering its final twelve months.

The scale of Enrique’s achievements places him among the most decorated coaches of his generation. Across his tenures at Barcelona and PSG, he has amassed 20 major trophies, including Champions League titles and multiple league honours.

His crowning moment in Paris came last season when he ended the club’s decades-long wait for European glory, masterminding victory over Inter Milan in the Champions League final. He now has the opportunity to make history again by retaining the trophy, with Arsenal the only side standing in his way.

Former Liverpool midfielder Danny Murphy has been among his admirers, recently describing Enrique as a “phenomenal coach” and openly naming him as his preferred choice for the Anfield position. PSG’s commanding display against Liverpool in the Champions League earlier this season only deepened the respect many Reds supporters hold for his methods.

Landing a manager of Enrique’s stature would represent a genuine statement of intent from FSG, particularly given the disappointment of missing out on Xabi Alonso. While the prospect currently appears remote given his ties to PSG, the mere suggestion of Enrique at Liverpool has been enough to set pulses racing among supporters.

For the time being, Slot remains in the dugout — but the speculation surrounding his position shows no sign of dying down.
