Liverpool target 25-year-old defender as ideal successor to key departure, but rival club stands firm on keeping him

Liverpool Eye Premier League Defensive Star as Ideal Konaté Successor, But Tottenham Stand Firm

Liverpool are reportedly considering a move for Tottenham Hotspur centre-back Micky van de Ven as they look to strengthen their defence this summer.

The Reds are searching for a replacement following the departure of Ibrahima Konaté, and Van de Ven has emerged as a leading candidate. The 25-year-old has established himself as one of the Premier League’s standout defenders, with his pace, recovery ability, and overall defensive quality making him an attractive option for Liverpool.

However, a deal appears difficult. Reports suggest Tottenham’s new manager, Roberto De Zerbi, is determined to keep the Dutch international and views him as a key figure in his long-term plans. De Zerbi reportedly wants to build his defensive setup around Van de Ven and help refine aspects of his game while maximizing his strengths.

Former scout Mick Brown believes Liverpool’s interest is understandable given the defender’s qualities, but insists Spurs will do everything possible to persuade him to remain in North London. With De Zerbi eager to make him a cornerstone of the project, Tottenham are expected to resist any offers.

Spurs narrowly avoided a relegation battle last season and are keen to improve significantly next year. Losing one of their most important players would be a major setback, especially with Van de Ven contracted until 2029. As a result, any club hoping to sign him would likely need to submit an exceptional offer to even begin negotiations.
