Tottenham show no signs of easing off the gas this summer. Having already tied up Mateus Fernandes and struck a £100 million agreement for Sandro Tonali, the north London club are now turning their attention to a marquee winger, with AC Milan’s Rafael Leao emerging as a genuine target.
De Zerbi’s rebuild started with a bang, landing Fernandes for a record £85 million before moving swiftly for Tonali in a deal Newcastle have since accepted. Now attention turns to the flanks, with City’s Savinho still in the picture but Leao rapidly becoming the more realistic option.
TEAMtalk report that Spurs have real interest in the 27-year-old, and that Milan’s new boss Ruben Amorim would be willing to sell this summer. Leao, currently on World Cup duty with Portugal, is said to be open to a fresh challenge and has long held an eye on the Premier League — with suggestions he’d be receptive to a Spurs move if the deal came together.
His camp have also sounded out Manchester United, Arsenal and Barcelona, but according to TEAMtalk none of those three see him as a genuine priority target, leaving the door open for Tottenham to press ahead — something they appear increasingly likely to do.
Internally, Spurs are encouraged by Leao’s willingness to consider the move, though landing him will still mean tough talks with Milan, who want a big fee for their prize asset, and the interest from United, Arsenal and Barca hasn’t gone away entirely.
Since arriving at Milan in 2019, Leao has racked up 80 goals and 65 assists in 291 games, establishing himself as one of Serie A’s most electrifying forwards — and a similar impact in England would make him a genuine game-changer for Spurs.
He’s also been in fine form at the World Cup, scoring in Portugal’s 5-0 group-stage rout of Uzbekistan and setting up the winner in a 2-1 last-32 victory over Croatia.
The question now is whether Tottenham turn their interest into a concrete bid — and if they do, they look well placed to get the deal done.
