Rob Edwards Hails Mathys Tel as Match-Winner After Tottenham Edge Wolves 1–0

Wolverhampton Wanderers manager Rob Edwards reserved special praise for Mathys Tel after Tottenham’s hard-fought 1–0 win at Molineux, acknowledging the young forward’s key role in turning the match against his side.

Although Wolves were solid for much of the game, Edwards admitted that moments of individual brilliance proved decisive — with Tel at the centre of it.

“It’s not as easy as people think, just showing up and beating Tottenham given their situation,” Edwards said post-match. “They’ve got real quality, and Tel showed that. Every time he got the ball, he caused problems and shifted the momentum.”

The 20-year-old, who made his move from Bayern Munich permanent, has grown into an important attacking figure for Spurs. His speed, direct style, and composure were once again on display, underlining why the club invested in his future.

Wolves looked organised and competitive, particularly in the first half when chances were scarce. However, Edwards admitted Tel’s intelligent movement and willingness to run at defenders disrupted their shape.

“There were periods where we controlled the game,” he added. “But players like him only need one moment. He stretched us, pushed us back, and that’s where we lost control.”

Tottenham eventually made it count late on, as João Palhinha netted the winner to secure a vital result in their relegation battle.

Edwards, whose team have already been relegated, admitted the defeat highlighted the fine margins at the top level.

“I’m proud of the effort, but against top players you need to be perfect for the full 90 minutes,” he said. “We weren’t, and Tel made us pay. He took the game away from us.”

For Spurs, it was another sign of Tel’s growing importance, while for Wolves, it reinforced how decisive individual quality can be in tight Premier League matches.
