Liverpool Make Late Attempt to Sign Chelsea’s Malo Gusto on Loan

Liverpool have reportedly made a late push to bring Chelsea right-back Malo Gusto to Anfield before the summer transfer window closes.

According to journalist Fabrice Hawkins, the Reds attempted to secure the France international on loan, but their proposal was rejected by Chelsea.

Liverpool were only prepared to consider a loan deal without a mandatory purchase option, while Chelsea preferred to sell Gusto permanently. However, Liverpool do not currently have the financial resources required to complete a permanent transfer.

Hawkins explained that Liverpool made a “final push” for Gusto on deadline day, but the move ultimately failed to materialise.

Liverpool’s interest in the 21-year-old is understandable given their need for greater competition at right-back following Trent Alexander-Arnold’s departure to Real Madrid. Jeremie Frimpong has taken over the position but has yet to fully convince.

Gusto could have provided another quality option, but with Chelsea unwilling to sanction the type of loan Liverpool wanted, the deal now appears unlikely to happen.

Unless there is a dramatic late development, Gusto is expected to remain at Stamford Bridge. Chelsea also have Reece James and new signing Marco Palestra competing for the right-back role.
