Pedro Porro said at the end of last season that his attention was fully on the World Cup and that he wasn’t getting caught up in transfer talk. Even so, speculation around the Tottenham defender has kept building, with both Manchester City and Real Madrid recently linked.
Spurs, though, are intent on keeping him, with Roberto De Zerbi seeing the Spanish full-back as a key part of his plans in North London.
New deal edging closer
Transfer insider Fabrizio Romano has given Tottenham fans a reason for optimism despite interest from Europe’s heavyweights. Romano reports that talks over a new long-term contract for Porro are progressing well, with a deal that would run until June 2030 on the table.
He also emphasized that Porro has been regarded as an untouchable figure under De Zerbi, having been a regular starter since the Italian took charge and playing a big part in Spurs’ fight to avoid relegation.
According to Romano, Tottenham are closing in on a new deal for Pedro Porro until June 2030, reiterating his “untouchable” status under De Zerbi.
Improved terms on the way
A new contract should also come with a significant pay rise, as Porro’s current wages don’t really match his importance to the squad. He’s currently on around £85,000 a week — decent money, but only on par with Radu Dragusin, who’s mostly been a backup option.
Given how reliable and committed Porro has been, Tottenham want to reward him properly. A jump to somewhere between £110,000 and £150,000 a week would mark a 29-76% raise and put him in the same bracket as players like Kudus and Kulusevski among the club’s top earners.
